Richmond residents Joe and Octavia Mattox just paid their personal property tax bill for thencars totaling more than $1,000. It's an annual event that has many residents hot under the collar. "We paid the sales tax when we bought our cars, and on top of that we have to pay more taxes for them each and every year" said Joe Mattox.
The Mattoxes both work and rely on their cars to get them to their jobs. "It's not like cars are frivolous items to fill our garage. We depend on our cars to take us to work and to take the children to school, sports activities and doctors appointments" remarked Octavia Mattox.
If the Gilmore car tax is enacted, the Mattoxes will use the money to invest in their children's college education. "We won't have to worry about how we are going to pay for college tuition if the government would just let us keep more of our own money," concluded Joe Mattox. "If Gilmore wins, I'll invest this tax refund to make sure that we can afford to send our children to college."
