"My opponent's record clearly shows his liberal bent on such issues as taxation and welfare reform. At every turn, when he had a choice between voting the Virginia way for lower taxes and personal responsibility or the Clinton way of higher taxes and opposing welfare reform, he voted with Bill Clinton every time. He even voted for Hillary's plan to nationalize the country's health care system.
"Clearly, Virginia cannot afford to elect as Lieutenant Governor a man who has voted to raise taxes and build a bigger bureaucracy."
