Wine, jazz at Oasis

Oasis wine and all that jazz at The Oasis Winery on Saturday, Aug. 30 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be $5 per person charge which includes parking, souvenir wine glass, wine tastings, winery tours, hor d’eouvres, and other entertainment. Wilson reunion set

The reunion of the late Thurman Wilson and Julia Thom Wilson will be held at the Brightwood Community Center in Brightwood starting at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 10. All relatives and friends are invited to attend. “Come bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the friendship,” said a spokesperson. Lunch will be served at 1 p.m.

Auction planned at Washington

Washington Volunteer Fire and Rescue will sponsor an auction on Sept. 6 at 6 p.m. Items are needed for this fundraiser. Donated items can be brought to the fire department or call 675-3615 for pick-up by members.

Registration underway

Registration is currently ongoing for Rappahannock Soccer League’s fall season. All children between the ages of 4 and 13 as of Aug. 1, 1997 are eligible to play. All RCES students received registration forms at school, and additional ones are available at Hackley’s in Amissville, Cabin Fever Books in Sperryville, and Settle’s in Flint Hill. The fee for each player is $25 for all forms received by Aug. 1, an additional $10 is required for all forms received between Aug. 2-7. Mail fee and form to Shannon Swain, Registrar (see form for address), if there are any registration questions please call Shannon at 987-8412 and leave a message. Practice will begin the last week of August and the season will begin in September. If you can help or have questions call Richard Price at 987-9428.

Adult education classes set

Free adult education classes continue to be available at the Rappahannock County Library, lower level room, on Monday and Wednesday, 7 to 9 p.m. New students are asked to register on Wednesday evening. For further information call 675-3419 or 675-2549.

Volunteers needed for project

Piedmont United Way Day of Caring will be held 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 13. Day of Caring is a day when the community comes together to help each other. If you have a project or want to participate call Lillian at First Call For Help 825-7569 before Aug. 1.

Families invited to learn safety

Do your children know how to protect themselves from strangers? Culpeper Memorial Hospital, Culpeper Tbwn Police and the Early Learning Center of Culpeper want you and your children to know effective ways to avoid being caught in dangerous situations, to prevent abductions and violence and to escape harm. Area families are invited to attend a free program on Stranger Safety to be presented at the Early Learning Center on Thursday, Aug. 7 at 6:30 p.m. Members of the Tbwn of Police will conduct separate sessions for parents and children ages 3 to 8 and 9 to 16.
