When the people of Virginia elected me to serve as their Governor, we laid an ambitious agenda for positive, honest change based upon Jeffersonian conservative principles.

In 1994, working with Attorney General Jim Gilmore, we transformed Virginia's adult criminal justice system, enacting "three strikes and you're out" legislation, abolishing the lenient parole system, and instituting truth-in-sentencing guidelines. This year, we also eliminated the burdensome state tax on Social Security benefits which the Democrats had levied on Virginia's senior citizens to pay for their reckless spending sprees.

Jim Gilmore is the only candidate for Governor who will continue Virginia’s impressive record in the areas of welfare reform, criminal justice reform, education improvements and tax relief.
