“The auction was wonderful. I’ve been to a lot of auctions with expensive horses. They’ve been dressed up and elegant, but I had never been to Christie’s and I was afraid it would be too fast paced. If you goof (at an auction) you can end up bidding against yourselfs So, I was very pleased that the auctioneer, who is a friend of the Princess, took his time to make sure no one felt harried,” said Marilyn.
She brought along her daughters-in-law, Maryann and Katie, and a friend, Linda Robinson, to New York
At the auction, there was a big board on the side with currency exchanges from all over the world. Forty people stood by at a telephone bank ready to take bids. The back of the main room was stuffed with reporters, along with those roaming through the bidding area. As soon as someone purchased a dress, she continued, the reporters were on her like vultures.
