Even Beyer Would Benefit from Tax Break To the editor:
Kudos to Jim Gilmore for his innovative plan to end personal property taxes on cars and trucks valued up to $20,000. Hard-working Virginians have long opposed the . personal property tax, so it's refreshing to see a candidate for Governor propose a bold plan that will benefit the vast majority of Virginians.
Of course, Don Beyer immediately threw cold water on Jim's bold initiative, calling the plan "reckless." I wonder if Mr. Beyer knows that Virginia is one of only a handful of states that burdens its citizens with a personal property tax, and that more than 80% of Virginians are opposed^to continuing the personal property tax.
Perhaps Mr. Beyer, who owns a Volvo car dealership, has seen the handwriting on the wall. Recently, he traded in his expensive Volvo 940SE for a less expensive Chevy.
