Gilmore Understands ABC’s of Education To the editor:

I applaud Attorney General James Gilmore's plan to hire five additional teachers for each elementary school in Virginia if he is elected Governor. Finally, a politician who understands what schools need; more teachers to help with the increasing number of students who come to school needing extra help, understanding, and remediation.

Increased technology, higher standards, and additional testing will not help the students who are struggling most in school. Additional teachers, a lower pupil-teacher ratio, and the availability of early remediation will.

I am glad to see the two gubernatorial candidates place education as their top priority, and I hope we will see continued emphasis on commonsense approaches such as Gilmore's.
