U.S. 522 and U.S. 211 in Sperryville are being considered for CTB action this month.

Most of the road improvement projects scheduled for Piedmont District in the current Six Year Plan involve “reconstruction” and widening. Reconstruction requires widening the existing roadway, ditches and banks from about 10-15 feet to a standard 18 feet (nine feet on each side of the center of the road), plus five feet on each side for new shoulders and ditches. The road is then paved.

McCarthy stated that “People who live where the road is being ‘improved’ often feel differently than people in the rest of the county. But they are not the only constituency that the board of supervisors has to consider. The universe of opinion is not expressed by who comes out for a public hearing.”
