Christmas
tour planned
Half a dozen of Culpeper’s oldest, and most historic homes will open their doors for touring when South East Neighborhood Watch sponsors the fourth annual “Christmas On East Street” celebration Dec. 6 from 1-5 p.m.
Originally surveyed by George Washington, Culpeper was one of the most strategic locations during the Civil War and a place from which some of the most important campaigns of the war were launched.
All of the homes on the tour this year were built between the mid 1800’s to early 1900’s. Among these private residence is the “Hill Mansion,” home of the brother of Gen. A.P. Hill, C.S.A.
Another home on tour, Fountain Hall, in Culpeper’s first Bed & Breakfast.
The home tour will be complimented with recreation of a Confederate encampment on the lawn of the Hill Mansion by professional Civil War Reenactors.
