When I look at Kenny’s art I place myself in a certain frame of mind: Years ago I lost a small key in a large area of unmowed grass. At first I felt a little panic, but then decided to just relax and let my eyes rest in the grass. They quickly connected with the key. This now seems to be a metaphorical story, and it could be; much of Kenny’s art both masks and reveals what it represents, with a supremacy of poetic content. A literal interpretation of this art would be badly misplaced, but letting your eyes rest fn it, a feeling jumps across the synapses between the painting and you. You’re put in touch with that lost key.
In one humbling experience after another, and after much exposure to art. I've come to define art as something as simple as the play of creatures blessed with opposing thumbs. The Kenny exhibit succeeds in sending out ripples on the sometimes placid lake of• our viewpoint. We interact with the art. unless we have thrown up a wall to the new and joyful. What is good art, to me, includes those things, in that vast arena, which bring me joy, and which are good for my psyche (and which. I might add, I don’t eventually find myself willing to part with, even if to give them to my kids!). And Kenny’s art, which confirms a playful notion of reality, I would never want to relinquish. -
