The scientific study of serial killers, cop killers, child killers, and other sociopathic offenders, both psychologically and bio-chemically, could help us to understand how to control and treat these individu^ als, and how to reduce their numbers and the numbers of their victims. Yes, Ted Bundy is dead and will never kill again, but until we better understand these creatures, there will be more like him, and they also will kill.
We are not stronger, better, or safer now that Karla Faye Tucker is gone. Instead, we have given in to our base instincts, and remained in the dark ages of our humanity. We understand no more now about what caused Ms. Tucker to kill than we did before, and we have sent clear messages to those who do not feel a part of the society in which most of us manage to more or less peacefully coexist: Life wis cheap, kill or be killed is still a valid option; and mercy and forgiveness are for wimps, for retribution is the Law of the Land.
