The article incorrectly stated, “At RCHS an addition constructed in the 1980’s added eight classrooms while four modular units were removed and a new one added in 1996.” The 1987 RCHS addition did not add eight classrooms. The drawings clearly indicate the addition of two classrooms, a science lab, a small special education classroom, and a health classroom (without windows, the room was not designed for daily usage). Also constructed at the same time were a new gym, a library, a multi-purpose room (for weight lifting), locker rooms, a new mechanical room, a reading room, and renovation of the old gym resulted in an auditorium, commons, storage areas.
The removal of the four modular units resulted in only a slight increase of designated classroom space, The addition was a great help for modernizing parts of the high school. However, the 1987 project did not significantly increase classroom capacity. RCHS has since used some of the designated storage space for small classrooms.
The article stated that in the high school, “there are 12 vacant rooms during the course of the day, not including the shop and the auditorium.” There are not 12 vacant rooms at the high school. Only one regular classroom (room No. 2) is available for only one period every other day. While less than ideal, every other day the old sewing area joining the home economics kitchen (culinary program area) is available for one period.
