Plans are under way for year 11 of the Rappahannock Nature Camp. There will be three one week sessions beginning June 22. Mark your summer calendars now!
The camp is sponsored by the Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection (RLEP) and Piedmont Environmental Council. It is a day camp for children 8- to 13years-old.
Lyt Wood, local arborist and one of the camp’s founders, will direct the camp this year. “I’m really pleased that RLEP continues to support what has become a wonderful tradition in allowing us to develop a meaningful experience of fun and education for all or our campers. Many of them return year after year, and eventually join us as counselors and instructors.”
According to Wood, the camp is more or less modelled after the Nature Camp at Vesuvius, and extremely popular camp for older children, founded by the Virginia Federation of Garden clubs 55 years ago. He is still active with that camp as an instructor at a yearly session for adults. As before, the Rappahannock Nature Camp will be at his property at Singing Creek. A new pole barn will serve as camp shelter.
