Currently principals and teachers work together as a team to meet the needs of students, he said, and to change the evaluation system to performance-based would jeopardize the effective system now in place. He said the RCEA would prefer the board keep the present system and work to straighten out the curve so that the scale would eventually balance.
Dr. John Tole, board chair, said it would take several years to do and could be done within the budget constraints each year. Once the curve is straightened out you proceed from there, he said. The cost to shift the curve to achieve a balanced step scale would be about the same as implementing a performance-based scale.
Moving on to other business the board heard a proposal for a field trip by Andra Logan’s special education class. The class has worked hard to raise money for a cruise to the Bahamas in May. Students from the class spoke to the board about what they have done to raise money and Logan presented the board with a package complete with reports on their finances, travel plans, schedules, etc.
