Birds are attracted to places that fill their four basic needs - food,water, shelter and space. Recycled materials can be fashioned into items that provide the first three needs. Your yard provides the last requirement while allowing you to enjoy the life and motion neighboring wildlife bring. The following ideas can be great family activities and can help teach . children the value of recycling.

Construct an “audible” watering spot for birds from a plastic milk jug and the lid from a broken garbage can. Poke a small hole in the corner of the bottom of the jug opposite the handle. Fill the bottle with water, and adjust the size of the hole to achieve a good drip rate. Tie the water-filled bottle to a tree or post a few feet above the ground.
