Internet. • Chris Sause, SCA president, presented a proposal to the board for a student representative chair to sit as a non-voting member of the board so as to give students a voice in school board matters. The representative would report student concerns from both schools to the board and act as a liason to the board from the study body. The board praised the idea and work that went into the proposal and will make a decision on the matter at the November meeting after studying the proposal. • The board approved the Senior Class field trip to Seven Springs Ski Resort pending review. • A letter outlining a RCES artist-in-residence project was received from Amy Gubler by the board. She received a grant from the Virginia Commission for the Arts and is raising matching community funds to produce a literary magazineand a color calendar for sale." It is an opportunity to publish writing and artwork of local students and has potential to become financially self sustaining. A fund would be established from the proceeds of the project and used to cover the next year’s publication fees. The board approved the project. • Donations were received and approved for: $600 from the Farm Bureau to RCES; a clipper shredder from James Paulson to the school system; a computer monitor from C.J. Raney; a computer monitor, keyboard and printer from James Kirkpatrick; and two computer monitors, keyboard, printer from William Pumphrey, all to the school system. • The board approved the October appropriations from federal and grant monies totaling $111,286.24 and the accounts were approved.
