Rappahannock News Staff Writer r „ With the beautiful autumn weather come loads of visitors and hikers to Shenandoah National Park and this past weekend was no exception. But for two hikers the weekend went downhill when they discovered human remains while exploring.
The hikers called the park rangers by cellular phone at about 12:15 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11 and reported the body. Lyn Rothgeb, of the park’s public information office, said the body was located at Keyser Run Fire Road and Little Devils Stair Trail. The remains are those of a man probably in his late 20s. A .22 caliber rifle was found beside the body. Personnel from the Rappahannock Sheriff’s Office assisted park rangers by checking people coming off the trail into the county.
