Juvenile escapee
caught on the run

A traffic stop on U.S. 211 near Amissville led to a search by police Monday.
First Sergeant Harry Newlin of the Virginia State Police made a routine traffic stop about 11:30 a.m. of a car which seemed to be driving erratically — pulling in and out of driveways like the driver was trying to avoid someone. A juvenile was driving and after checking Newlin found the youth had escaped from the Fredericksburg Juvenile Detention Center.
Newlin, had called for backup, handcuffed ffie boy and put him in the squad car while he went to check out the boy’s car.
The youth took off and ran through the trees near Muskrat Haven Farm. The Rappahannock County Sheriff's Office was on the scene to help in the search and helicopters and dogs from the state police were called in.
But it was Newlin and Rappahannock Sheriff Gary Settle who caught up with the youth on South Poes Road around 3 p.m.
