out there with me.”
And just what did Kaus change on the car?
• When the Camaro was built in ‘67, it was painted gold, and had a gold interior; it is now bright red with white stripes and a black interior.
Actually, the car had been painted dark blue before Kaus acquired it, but he replaced most of the sheet metal on the car, anyway.
• The car was built with a six-cylinder engine and 2-speed Powerglide automatic transmission. Kaus installed a Chevy 350 V-8 and Muncy M-20 4speed standard shift.
• The car lacked power steering and had standard 4wheel drum brakes. Kaus installed power steering and power front disc brakes during the rebuilding.
• Originally built with air conditioning, Kaus removed the old parts and rebuilt the car to non-AC specs.
In the year since completing the car, he and his family have enjoyed taking it to many meets and shows.
Before the current project car, Kaus had rebuilt another ‘67 Camaro, which he also took to shows, but later sold.
But he won’t sell this one. “My son has already laid claim to the Camaro,” said Kaus. “In six more years, he’ll be asking to drive it.”
