Through resourcefulness, patience and a lot of hard work, he managed to rebuild the car in a highly personal, modified form.
And what’s remarkable is that all of the restoration work — which would take most enthusiasts years to complete — was started in. January, 1997 and completed by the following July, just six short months later.
How did Kaus do it so fast? And why?
“I just loved working on the car,” said Kaus, whose day job is working as an aircraft mechanic for United Airlines. As if he didn’t have enough mechanical challenges at work, he spends most of his free time on his hobby.
During the six months Kaus was rebuilding the car, he spent so much time in the garage that his wife, Caryl, began referring to it as “the dungeon.*
Fortunately, both his wife and son, Paul, 10, and daughter Katie, 8, became involved in the project as well.
