Make props such as' magic wands and swords out of cardboard or foam, rather than metal or wood.
Trick-or-Treat safety:
• Give and accept wrapped, or packaged candy only.
• Have children bringtreats home for adult inspection before they are eaten.
• Accompany small and elementary age children when they are trick-or-treating andsend older children in groups.
• Go out in daylight and' carry a flashlight in case of delay.
• Have children stay within the neighborhood; only visit homes that you know.
• Watch for traffic.
The sheriff’s office has available a Halloween Candy Hotline that will put a dispatcher in touch with experts for suspected candy tamperings. This number is for law enforcement only but do not hesitate to call if you have any questions, 675-3331. The first 125 children that go by the; sheriff’s office on Halloween after 6:45 p.m. will receive a' free fluorescent night stick for safety. The Sperryville Volunteer Rescue Squad will also have candy for trick-ortreaters as well as safety infor-, mation, CPR prompt cards and. emergency safety information for everyone.
