At first Johnson would not come out, but he was finally coaxed onto the front porch by Sgt. Benshoof.

At that point, Johnson was rushed by the State Police Tactical Team. He initially resisted and had to be physically subdued before taken into custody. He was not injured, according to Sherertz.

Johnson was taken to the Rappahannock County Jail, where he was charged with first degree murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony.
