A meeting at the Washington Baptist Church March 7 echoed what the Virginia government officially has said about preparing for Year 2000: there will be possible computer miscalculations, malfunctions or shutdowns as the date changes to the next century.
Everything may be fine with only minor inconveniences. But the accumulation of enough minor problems could easily become major problems — the “domino effect.”
Power Companies
The most serious local disruption would be if power were cut off.
The local companies, Allegheny Power and Rappahannock Electric Cooperative, both said they would be Y2K compliant by the summer.
