He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Estella May Harmon Dennis.
Mr. Dennis’ professional life was spent as a landscape gardener in Ocean City, N.J. and Bridgeport, Conn, before returning to Scrabble in 1949. After returning he continued working as a landscaper, some farming and lastly worked as a painter.
Mr. Dennis was a very compassionate and gentle man and was very devoted to his family. He enjoyed observing nature and reading good novels.
Mr. Dennis enjoyed walking to visit with family and friends in the community and continued to do so until recent months. Even during his illness he never complained and remained self-sufficient until physically disabled.
Survivors include his children, Barbara D. Smoak and her husband Francis, of Washington, D.C., Audrey D. Wilkes and her husband William of Clinton, Md. and Stephen L. Dennis and his wife, Beverly of Culpeper; one brother, Lawrence R. Dennis of Washington, D.C.; eight grandchildren, 12 greatgrandchildren and one stepgrandchild.
Funeral services were conducted March 6 at Found and Sons Chapel with the Rev. Ludwell Brown.
Interment followed at Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery.
