throated Hummingbird will zoom back and forth in a sweeping arc in front of watching females. As if suspended on a thread, he swings in increasingly longer curves, each designed to produce a flash of brilliant red from his iridescent throat feathers.
Several females quietly watch from some perch and, if impressed enough by the display, mate with the male. He may mate with several females. His work is over at this point. He has passed his genes on to future hummingbirds. Monogamy is not for hummingbirds.
