A variety of new, complex issues are likely to be discussed at the joint public hearing on cellular phone service and communications towers, scheduled for March 18 at 7 p.m. at Rappahannock County High School.
The purpose of the hearing, called by the Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission, is “to lead eventually to adoption of a new regulations within the Rappahannock County Code, in compliance with the Telecommunications Act of 1996, governing the placement of telecommunications facilities.”
Of equal importance will be determining what county residents see as the need for improved cellular service in the county — and what they are willing to trade off in terms of Rappahannock’s natural viewshed.
Attending will be representatives of Sprint Inc., the telecommunications company that has recently been making inquiries into installing new communications facilities — including up to six 250-ft. tall communications towers on high ground in the county.
