At least some minor disruptions are inevitable both the federal and state Y2K committees said, especially in small to medium-size businesses and governments that have delayed conversion.
A number of dates besides Jan. 1, 2000 are expected to present problems for computers.
Those dates are April 9 — the 99th day of 1999; September 9 — the ninth day of the ninth month of ‘99; the end of fiscal years throughout this year and next, as well as leap day, Feb. 29 next year.
The U.S. Senate special committee on the Year 2000 reported more serious concerns than the state government. Sen. Christopher J. Dodd (D-Conn.), who is on the special Senate panel, said on “Face the Nation” Feb. 28 that global'satellites might experience difficulty in August.
Also on the program, Sen. Robert F. Bennett (R-Utah), who heads the special Senate committee, said that over 10 percent of the electronic systems are expected to fail that in turn will cause multiple failures in embedded systems.
He added that the power grid would probably continue to operate with only brown outs in some areas.
