in Rappahannock County, although some of the land was in Warren County.
Some people were paying taxes to both counties, since the line divided their property. In other cases, property owners were located in one county and paying taxes in another, according to Ray Boyles, Warren County Deputy Commissioner Supervisor of the Real Estate Department.
Fauquier County — although not represented at the meeting — was also involved in the boundary adjustment process in the Fox Pines subdivision, and will hold a similar informational meeting in two weeks.
The boundary adjustments will eventually extend from the Shenandoah National Park to south of Linden, Boyles said later.
James E. McGrail, a Fauquier-Rappahannock county property owner, said he would like his boundary to run with what he considers the real headwaters of the Rappahannock River, not the one listed on the map.
Luke said the process would also involve having the three county attorneys draw up agreements and hold a public hearing with the Board of Supervisors in each county.
If they approved the boundary adjustment, it would be forwarded to the Circuit Court and then to the U S. Justice Department.
This was the same procedure the Town of Washington was following in its towncounty boundary adjustment.
Luke said that because a change in voting districts was involved, the U.S.- Justice Department must approve the change according to the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
