Celebrated illustrator Stephen R. Wagner's festive show of Holiday art and cards is now on display at the Rappahannock Library.
Through Nov. 30 you may view his witty, sometimes secular, but always appealing paintings and drawings done for the holiday season. Some date as far back as the early 1980’s, while others have been completed since the artist’s move to Washington in 1987, and incorporate scenes from the county.
Steve has been creating holiday cards since he was a teenager. Some of them were real originals, only one copy drawn for his mother. Wagner’s mother is probably the only person who has the complete collection of holiday art, which began in the late 1950’s.
The art represents a variety of media - airbrush, linoleum block, pen and ink, watercolor, pencil and gouache. Annually Steve produces one piece of holiday art depending upon the particular “muse” that year. Because of his love of wildlife, many of the cards include animals. You might
