• The Celebration of Learning for second and third graders was held on Wednesday, Nov. 3 in the RCES gym. Parents are always invited to attend these events to support students who are excelling in various areas. If you have questions, please contact your child’s teacher.

• Please remember that the two make-up days for the J days missed due to flooding " will be Jan. 17 (Lee-Jackson 1 Day) and Feb. 21 (Presidents’ Day). Please mark your calendars.

• Congratulations to Mrs. Danette Opseth, RCES Secretary, who was elected to represent the Public Schools’ Support Staff on the School Council. Mrs. Opseth will bring a fresh and varied perspective to this dedicated board. The selection was difficult as all of the candidates were quite capable and any one of them would have been a wonderful representative.

• The RCES staff is happy to have Mrs. Fay Smoot, mother of Brandan and Sarah Smoot, working in the Main Office. She was hired to replace Mrs. Liz Dodson as Office Aide. Please take a moment to say hello when you stop in to drop off or pick up your child)ren).

• The Junior Class at RCHS held a Halloween Dance on Friday, Oct. 29 to raise funds for the JuniorSenior Prom. Stay tuned for future opportunities to help this class reach its goal.

• The first Forensics meet of the year will be held in Madison County on Nov. 13. If you would like to attend this event to support our students, please call Mr. Jon Heddleston at RCHS at 987-8575.

• The RCHS National Honor Society began tutoring first graders at RCES last week as partners in the Book Buddies program. This is quite a commitment, but we applaud the NHS students for rising to the occasion. The program was made possible through the generosity of the Rappahannock Lions Club.
