As required by the U.S. Constitution, the U.S. Census will be taken April 1 next year. But the time to prepare is now.
The census is taken every 10 years and is a determining factor in how many representatives each state has in Congress and how the state legislature is districted. It also helps determine how voting zones in the city must be drawn. In essence, it affects everyone on the federal, State and local levels.
In March 2000, every household in the country will receive a Census 2000 questionnaire. The form will be in English, but may be requested in Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, Tagalog or Korean. Information to obtain a form in one of these languages will be sent out before the census.
To ensure the count is taken accurately, the Census Bureau is recruiting census takers for the Rappahannock area. To qualify, you must be 18 years old, take a written test and agree not to engage in any partisan political activity within 24 hours of performing work. Males must be regisr
