THE FUTURE
If there is anything that each of us knows about the future, it is that death is certain. The finite nature of this knowledge is the very thing that gives our lives their sense of importance and urgency. As for the event of death itself, it is shrouded in sufficient mystery to cultivate our spiritual sides. And, life itself is riddled with enough uncertainty to make us stronger by virtue of the choices we make. As Augustine of Hippo surmised: “God will not suffer man to have a knowledge of things to come; for if he had the prescience of his prosperity, he would be careless; and if understanding of his adversity, he would be desparing and senseless.”
We spend a lot of time worrying about the future, which, at best is something we can only influence, but not control.
