The usual arrangement, ratified by experience, is grades kindergarten-fifth elementary, sixth-eighth middle and ninth12 high school, and these are housed in physically separate surroundings. For all we know the hazards of modern “culture” accentuate a need for a three tier scheme which features a middle school designed to care for the particular needs of children progressing toward adulthood - with all the tensions and confusions attendant on this process.
A grievously wrong decision was taken by this county’9 government this year in that instead of investing in a new middle school, this government chose to meet a somewhat ephemeral space problem by expanding the high school building, thereby foreclosing for virtually all time any opportunity to bring this county’s educational establishment into conformance with' ,, modern theory and practice.
