Responding to the need for a new “One-Stop” employment service office, the Library Board agreed to allow the Department of Social Services the daytime use of Literacy Volunteers (LVA)space in the library basement. According to Board member and County Administrator John McCarthy, there is a mandate that individuals receiving social services have access to employment support, and the LVA had offered the use of their space for such purpose.
The One-Stop Office will have a single employee who will provide network-based employment services to clientele. 'The schedule for the establishment of the office has yet to be announced.
Library Director David Shaffer reported that James J. Kilpatrick donated some 700 books to the library, some of which will be used by the library and the balance of which will be sold at the book sale.
The Kilpatrick collection consists largely of political biographies, Shaffer said. He also noted that the lease price on the new copier has been reduced from $92 to $52.30 per month because of the elimination of some unnecessary options.
Shaffer announced that at the next Friday Night Program, on Nov. 5 at 8 p.m., Dr. Richard Johanson will lead a discussion on education in Third World nations. Shaffer also said that the library has received three responses to its advertisement for a children’s librarian, and
