The Director’s report also included a new statistical summary of library activities. For the First Quarter of the Fiscal Year, it showed, circulation was 9,565 patron visits amounted to 4,430 and the library signed-up 116 new patrons.
Board President Franklin Warner discussed his concerns about Jamieson Room receipts. He noted that the library’s position has been that groups are free to use the room and that donations for such use are optional, but that few groups actually donate. Donations are not sought to make a profit, he added, but to offset expenses including utilities and staff time. The board discussed the possibility of charging for room use, but decided instead to leave the policy as it stands.
Treasurer Helen Platt’s report showed income of some $68,600 and expenditures of nearly $29,000 through the close of the quarter Sept. 30,1999. The Library Fund summary indicated a balance of $329,864.35 at the end of the same period.
The next meeting of the Library Board of Trustees will be held on Dec. 9 at 10 a.m.
