He was an electrical contractor for 50 years in Fauquier and Loudoun Counties.

He was an officer and past governor of Moose Lodge 829 in Front Royal.

He was the husband of the late Alice Virginia Payne.

Surviving are his wife, Edna T. Payne; a daughter, Peggy Edwards of Warrenton; four sons, Jack Payne of Warrenton, Jerry Payne of Manassas, Henry Payne and Calvin Payne, both of Marshall; three sisters; a brother; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements were handled by the Moser Funeral Home in Warrenton.
