Welcome to a new feature which will appear periodically, weekly, monthly, or when we feel like writing it. This feature will review selected new films (as in, what we want to see) available for rental at Cinema Paradiso, your community video store.
Film rental is a real bargain, only $3 for a week (new releases may be kept
large video stores. The video collection caters to most all tastes, and includes timeless classics, foreign and childrens’
slasher or junk niovies here. So, here’s what we thought of these films:
* Run Lola Run: A Sundance Film Jlfc m Festival Winner, this movie is German K ■ with English subtitles, and definitely an “art film.” Our view: Very different, 78 very cool, good musical score! (and only 81 minutes if you have a short attention span for subtitles).
Visually arresting, “Rim Lola Rim” features an athletic but very red-haired (and tattooed) young woman racing her way A through three bizarre scenarios, trying to save her doltish boyfriend from his Mafia Boss. Lola runs through intricately detailed, high-speed flash forwards set to a “throbbing techno score,” ^ briefly becomes an animated character, wins a zillion dollars, discovers her father’s infidelity, and saves the life of a family friend in a repeat-sequence ambulance ride. (Whew!)
