trains, and directs the work of subordinate inspectors. Conducts on-site inspections of materials, roadways, and structures, including checking lines, grades, and dimensions of work. Complies and maintains project documentation, such as estimates and progress reports through the use of computerized software in a windows environment; promotes Department safety policies, and communicates with contractors, VDOT personnel and the general public. Candidates must have considerable knowledge of highway and bridge construction methods, practices, procedures, and specifications and safety and EEO/DBE guidelines and regulations. Able to read and interpret plans and specifications; use and instruct others in the operation of survey instruments and engineering field equipment; supervise the work of others; interface with VDOT personnel and the general public and communicate effectively. Must possess experience working with computers in a windows environment. May be required to work during emergency situations. Requires safety shoes and a Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Selected candidates subject to DMV driving record review and pre-employment drug test. NOTE: If there are insufficient number of qualified applicants for the Transportation Construction Inspector Senior, it may be filled as Transportation Construction Inspector or Inspector Trainee. The Inspector positions will have comparable duties and qualifications as stated above.
