This is Mrs Bird’s review pn Jan 9. • ■ The imaginative “Works In Progress’* exhibition at the Middle Street Gallery for January and February provides an opportunity to see what happens “behind the scenes”, perhaps like a theatrical rehearsal.
Who wouldn’t want to be there when Chris Stevens blocks out and begins to work on a landscape? There is a beautiful one to see at the gallery.
Steven Kenny has in mind to paint “Towers of Babel”. Look at his study and the beginnings of his towers, no paint yet. June Jordan has a couple of figures, very nude indeed, as she plots her compositions.
Of especial interest are Gary Colson’s sculptures: two stones are only mounted side by side, no carving yet. Another top heavy piece of jasper awaits carving too. A
