Clarence E. Giles purchased from Downing Wood last week the lot adjacent to the property of Morgan Johnston and Charlie Jenkins in Washington. The property has approximately a 100 foot frontage with a depth of about 160 feet. It was previously owned by Mrs. Daisy Partlow before being purchased by Mr. Wood. J.B. Johnson, Janies W. Fletcher and P. Lee Thornton attended the Kentucky Derby on Saturday. In an advertisement a new 1950 International Harvester refrigerator was advertised for $214.95. Special features listed were: holds 35 pounds of frozen foods, exclusive built-in bottle opener and a plastic crisper that would hold 11.3 quarts. The Senior Class of Washington High School will present a play, “Calling All Girls” in the high school auditorium, May 12. Admission is 25 cents and 50 cents.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Huff of Flint Hill were among the guests of honor at a reception at the Russian Embassy in Washington last Friday night, commemorating the 30th anniversary of the defeat of “Hitlerite fascism.” Huff was invited because he was one of the first four Americans to greet the Russians at the Elbe River, after the defeat of Germany in World War II. His action almost earned him a court martial, until General Dwight Eisenhower sent word that “what we’d done was the best news he’d had in a long time and he only wished he could have been there with us,” Huff said. Since then, Huff has earned a small place in the history of World War II. Members of the county Homemakers Clubs attended a luncheon and demonstration Wednesday at Oak Forest
