This past Wednesday, May 3 opening ceremonies were held for the Miller Field. It was a beautiful sunny day with just enough cloud cover to keep it from being too bright or hot, a perfect late spring evening.
Cub Scout Josh Bywaters led the teams, coaches and spectators in the national anthem, and the players, ages 9 to 12, took the field. Playing this particular day were our Settles team versus Culpeper’s Tri Hand team.
By all accounts but their own modest ones, the field is the brain child of two Rappahannock fathers and coaches, Paul Gall and Monty Clinedinst, along with Clifford Miller Jr., who generously donated the use of his field.
Asked what prompted their efforts, Mr. Gall responded: “Last year we had the high school field. This year, the program expanded... but because of the high school addition, there is no field there anymore.”
