all frolic and fun. As a puppy raiser, Sarah is responsible for providing house training, teaching Myann basic obedience skills, taking her to weekly puppy training classes, and providing the basic necessities, and she must report monthly to CCI on Myann’s progress.
She also has to make certain that Myann is well socialized and comfortable in a variety of settings. That means that Sarah will take Myann into environments that she may encounter as a full-fledged canine companion—like malls, a Wal-Mart, a restaurant . . . even a occasional flight on an airline.
Of course Myann is suitably attired in companion dog garb when in these situations, and most store managers and transportation-related personnel are aware of the training programs and are cooperative when they see a companion-in-training in their facilities.
When Myann has reached the end of her puppy training, Sarah will bring her to a CCI regional office for evaluation. There CCI will check her temperament and physical condition and the effectiveness of her training, and if all looks good Myann will go on to a six month period of intensive training, followed by two weeks of team training with her prospective companion.
