On Tuesday, May 1 the Panther varsity traveled to Brentsville hoping to earn their first victory of the season over the struggling Tiger team. Sophomore Noah Starks started for the Panthers and pitched well for six innings. He struck out three Brentsville batters and gave up nine hits, but it was the shaky Panther defense that couldn’t make many of the routine plays necessary to hold the Tigers in check.
When it was over, the Panthers had suffered their 8th straight District loss, losing by the score of 10-4.
While the Varsity was struggling at Brentsville, the Junior Varsity was at home hosting the JV Tigers. Sophomore Daryl Cropp got the start and was having a good day on the mound for the JV squad. Cropp went the distance for the Panthers, getting the win and striking out 11 Tiger batters, while walking five.
Freshman catcher Josh Werner, alternating his time between the varsity and the JV squad, was the offensive power for the Panthers, going two for four at the dish and scoring two of the JVs four runs. Sophomore Mike Cannon and freshman Kyle Robinson also scored for the JV Panthers as they defeated Brentsville 4-3.
On Friday, May 11 the varsity lost perhaps their toughest game of the season. The second place, Clarke County Eagles came to Rapp expecting an easy win. What they got instead was a bunch of guys playing for pride and determined to upset the number two team in the District.
The Panthers set the Eagles on their heels with a five-hit, seven-run second inning that served notice that there was a game in progress. The Eagles responded with five runs of their own in the top of the third to make the score 7-5. Not ready to give an inch, the
