For example, Charles A. Riffee of Front Royal, grandson of Private Amos D. Riffee of the 22nd Virginia Infantry Regiment, offers his family recipe for Hearty Buffet Chili. Along with the chili recipe, the book informs us that Amos enlisted at age 17 along with two brothers, was captured in 1864 and was sent to Fort Delaware Prison, where he remained until released in 1865. After the war, he cofounded the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Kenna, West Virginia, where he died in 1906.
