Plans for 4th underiuay
The Fourth of July Planning Committee for RAAC is busy planning activities to be held on Wednesday, July 4 in the town of Washington.
There will be a parade, hopefully bigger and better than last year’s. All types of marchers, bands, floats, tractors, antique vehicles, animals of all types, etc. are more than welcome to participate. The parade time and line-up arrangements will be announced closer to the Fourth. Call Ellen at 675-1349 or email her at solutns@shentel.net and leave a message of interest or go to www.raac.org and sign up to be part of the parade.
As part of the parade the children are once again asked to decorate their bikes, wagons, scooters, skates, etc. and participate in the parade. More details to follow. No registration necessary.

Chester Gap Volunteer Fire Department is in search of contestants for their upcoming beauty pageant, which is scheduled for. Sunday, May 20 at 2 p.m. at Ressie Jeffries. Art and craft vendors sought
Local artists and crafts people interested in showing’and selling their works are invited to participate in Sperryville Civil War Days, which will be held on Saturday and Sunday, June 23 along Main Street in the historic village of Sperryville.
The weekend is an annual commemoration of the events of 1861-65, which had profound affects on life in Rappahannock! County and all of Virginia. Events will include Civil War encamp-; ments and demonstrations by uniformed re-enactors, perfor-1 mance of music of the period by local musicians, book signing ■ and discussions by Civil War historians and novelists, and displays of arts and crafts.
Local artisans who would like to set up displays or vendor, booths for the event are invited to call Suzanne Zylonis of Blue* Ridge Artisans at 987-1000.
Local non-profit organizations are also welcome to participate in the event to publicize their programs or recruit new members. Non-profits interested in participating should call Jim’ Gannon at the Old Sperryville Bookshop at 987-8444. Space will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. !
