There was plenty of hot .weather this past week, but it just seemed to wilt the “Boys of ^Summer,” as they just fell short of earning their first victory of the season in varsity baseball. The “Softball Girls of Summer” stumbled early in the week, regained their form on Friday and headed into the weekend tied for second place in the Bull Rim District with a solid win over Clarke County. However, the real story this past week was the play and performance of the boys soccer team, as they moved into first place in the District and made the statement we are here to ■challenge all comers for the single “A” Division state championship!

The Varsity Boys’ Soccer Tfeam had a week to remember as they defeated co-District 'leading Brentsville on Tuesday, ■May 8 at the home field of the ■Tigers. The win not only avenged a frustrating tie between the two in a game played earlier in the season at .Rapp, but it catapulted the Panthers into sole possession of First Place in the Bull Run District. Brentsville Head Coach “Chip” Rohr may have been trying some fancy field craft when he left the grass a little higher then usual for the game.
The resulting slow field tended to minimize the Panther sharp passing attack early in the game. However, the Rapp side soon stepped up the pressure and had the Tigers on their heels, consistently back in the Brentsville end. The Panthers got a huge, two-goal game from exchange student/senior Miguel Gavaria. Ip addition to Gavaria’s ninth and tenth goals of the season, fellow senior Josh DeMarr added a third goal in the game that gave the Panthers a 3-1 victory.
The Lady Panthers weren’t quite so fortunate as their counterparts in Big Blue. The Lady Tigers sport the best record in the District and went into the game undefeated. They played their game and reminded our girls why they are number one with a 2-0 win over the Rapp Girls.
On Friday, May 11 the Eagles from Clarke County came to RCHS to see what the new District leader was made of. They didn’t have to wait long as Gavaria showed them that he was a serious contender for All-District honors with another goal to spot the Panthers to a first-half 1-0 lead.
94.5%
