Panthers had to get on the bus, having lost to Brentsville 4-0.
The good news was back at home the Junior Varsity Lady Panthers were not only holding their own, but they were finding a way to win. Behind the steady pitching of freshman, Lara Kreyling, the JV squad defeated the JV team from Brentsville by the score of 5-1.
On Friday, May 11 the varsity girls returned home to play the Lady Eagles from Clarke County. Sharp started on the mound for the Lady Panthers and immediately set down the side with three “K’s.” The rest of the game went the way of the Rapp squad as they downed the Eagles 11-4.
Junior Gwen Johnson picked up the win, pitching three innings and striking out seven Clarke batters. Freshman Kreyling got her first taste of pitching at the varsity level, as she relieved Johnson and finished up the last three innings. At bat, Johnson was a “one-man wrecking crew,” as she led the Panther offense, going three for four at the plate with two doubles and six RBI’s.
The JV squad also had a good day as they traveled to Clarke County and had little difficulty dispatching the JV Eagles by the score of 19-3. With Kreyling pulling duty at the varsity for this game, freshman pitchers Brittany Thornhill and Camille Freeborn split the slab chores at Berryville on Friday night. Both the varsity and JV finish final adjustments this week as they prepare to go into the District Tbumament the third week in May.
