Purgason’s letter (“We need football!,” March 27), supporting football, let me say again that what we need is reasoned discussion of our school’s needs.
Boosterism such as Purgason’s adds very little to the discussion.
Chris Wheatley’s letter t\^o weeks ago listed numerous areas in which Rappahannock schools need upgrades and improvements. Many programs that are already started are in danger because of budget cuts. ; Purgason says he wouldn’t send his child to a school that didn’t have football. Would he send his child to a school that was struggling academically? Tb one that didn’t have music rt>r art or a daily physical education
program?
There are a lot of things I we all wish for, but we have to make choices. Those choices will have consequences, intended and unintended.
If we were funded like the Department of Defense school in Germany that Purgason regards so highly, then maybe we could offer everything — but I don’t think we are.
