^jipahannock County and one of the statements fead: ; Volunteerism, a hallmark of those who live in this proud and independent community, will be supported and encouraged as a continuing reflection of ^he strong timber and fierce spirit of the Rappahannock heritage. ;• Rappahannock is blessed with volunteers everywhere you turn. Last April the County Supervisors passed a resolution promoted by Rappahannock County Public School Volunteer Coordinator Jan tylakela that would appeal to the State Legislature to designate Rappahannock County as the Volunteer Capital of Virginia.

.Though we fell a little short of our goal (Fairfax 4nd Alexandria opposed it), the Virginia House of

fpelegates unanimously voted to honor ippahannock for the incredible volunteer spirit thibited by our citizens, especially in the school intern. What an accolade! '•According to Mrs. Makela, at RCES alone, over

yje encourage citizens throughout the month of April to volunteer a day or a few hours of their time to some worthwhile organization. No greater satisfaction can be derived than that of a volunteer pffort. l! Your service is needed in the Public School System, the Library, spring related community events, fire and rescue organizations, churches, area hospitals, Senior Citizen Center and the list goes pn. !! And last but not least — thank a volunteer for their efforts and make an April resolution to become ft volunteer today! I*
