Afterwards, Head Coach Mick Strand remarked, “The first game was a quality win against a good Luray team that has a lot of good athletes and is very well coached. Even though we took a small step backward in the second game it is a sign that our team is heading in the right direction.”
The junior varsity got a great pitching performance from young Jason Jenkins in the first game of the JV doubleheader. The slender lefthander struck out eight and gave up only one walk over the five-inning game.
Unfortunately, his mates couldn’t play the same quality of defense and those mistakes cost the JV Panthers a 4 to 1 defeat. Fellow 8th grader Jacob Dodson got the only two hits of the game for the home team. The second game saw both teams get better on the offensive side as the game ended in a 7 to 7 tie due to fading light conditions.
Dylan Corbin pitched three innings and Alex Sharp threw the other two for the Panther JV team. Jason Jenkins collected two hits in the second game and scored twice, while Sharp scored three times.
The Panthers out hit the visiting JV Bulldogs from Luray in the second game, but made too many mistakes to maintain the lead.
